The quick version. When you sign up to Equity Engine, you're joining a research community. You share your experiences — anonymously — and we use them to help health organisations notice voices they often miss. You earn points for doing surveys, which you can swap for shopping vouchers. You can leave any time.
1. Who you're making this agreement with
These terms are between you and Unwritten Health Ltd, the company that runs Equity Engine.
Swan Buildings, 20 Swan Street
Manchester, M4 5JW, UK
Phone: +44 (0) 161 524 8800
Email: chat@equityengine.health
We're a company registered in England and Wales. Company number: 16561594.
2. Who can join
- You need to be 16 or older.
- You need to live in the UK, or have used the NHS enough that your experiences matter to UK health research.
- You need to give us real, honest information when you sign up.
- You need to use a real email address that you can get into.
- One person, one account. If you make more than one account, we may close them all and your points may be lost.
3. Your account
Keep your password to yourself. We'll never ask for it by email or phone — anyone who does is pretending to be us.
If you think someone has got into your account without your permission, email security@equityengine.health right away.
If we think an account is being used to cheat or break these terms, we may close it. If we do, we'll tell you why and let you appeal.
4. Surveys — what we ask, and what we do with your answers
- You pick which surveys you do. You can skip any question or any survey you don't want to answer.
- Your answers are added together with everyone else's and made anonymous before they go anywhere. The organisations we work with see big-picture findings, not who said what. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
- You agree that the anonymous big-picture results (we call this the "Research Output") belong to Unwritten Health Ltd. We may share, publish or licence those results to help health research — including in ways that make money for us, where consistent with our mission.
- You still own your own personal information. We're just allowed to use it as set out in our Privacy Policy.
- You can ask us to delete your survey answers any time, and we'll do it within 30 days. (Anonymous results we've already shared in reports stay where they are, because they don't identify you any more.)
5. Points and rewards — how they work
Earning points
You earn points for finishing surveys. Each survey shows how many points it's worth before you start. Your total shows up on your home page.
Points are tied to your account. You can't transfer them to someone else, and they have no cash value on their own — they can only be swapped using the steps below.
What you can swap them for
- 250 points → £5 voucher
- 500 points → £10 voucher
- 1,000 points → £25 voucher
- 2,000 points → £50 voucher
Vouchers are e-gift cards from a partner like Amazon UK. We may change these rates with reasonable notice (we'll email you first).
Getting your voucher
Most of the time the voucher email arrives within a few minutes of you tapping "Redeem".
If your account looks unusual (for example, you signed up from an advert and we want to double-check it's really you), we may ask you to confirm your phone number by text before sending the voucher. This only happens once per account.
If we cancel a redemption
We may cancel a swap and put your points back if:
- The account broke these terms.
- The points came from cheating (like using automation or making multiple accounts).
- Something out of our control stops the swap (like a major outage).
6. The rules — what you can't do
To keep things fair for everyone, you agree not to:
- Use bots, scripts or automated tools on Equity Engine.
- Make more than one account, even with different names or different devices.
- Lie on purpose in your profile or survey answers.
- Try to get into someone else's account.
- Try to break or hack the platform. (If you're a security researcher who's found a real bug, please email security@equityengine.health — we'll thank you.)
- Sell, give away or lend your account to anyone.
Breaking any of these may end your account on the spot and lose your points.
7. When the platform might not be working
We try to keep Equity Engine up and running all the time, but we can't promise it. Sometimes we'll need to take it down for maintenance or fixes. Sometimes the internet just plays up.
If we're planning a change that will mean you lose something useful, we'll email you at least 14 days before.
8. What we're responsible for (and what we're not)
UK law allows companies like us to set some limits on what we're responsible for. So:
- If we close your account because you broke these terms, we're not responsible for the points or rewards you lose.
- We're not responsible for indirect losses (for example, lost earnings while the site is down).
- We're not responsible for problems caused by things outside our control.
But — and this is important — nothing in these terms gets us out of things the law says we can't get out of. That includes fraud, serious injury caused by us being careless, and our duties under UK privacy law.
9. How we look after your information
We take your privacy seriously. The full details are in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
10. Leaving Equity Engine
You can leave any time. Email chat@equityengine.health from the address you signed up with, or use the in-app option once it's available.
When you leave:
- We remove your name, email and personal profile from our active systems within 30 days.
- If you have a voucher swap waiting, we still send it.
- Your anonymous survey answers stay as part of the research — but they can't be traced back to you.
11. If something goes wrong
These terms follow the law of England and Wales. If you have a problem, we'd love the chance to fix it first — email chat@equityengine.health. If we can't sort it out together, the courts of England and Wales decide.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll email you at least 14 days before the change kicks in, and the new date will appear at the top of this page. If you keep using Equity Engine after that date, you're agreeing to the new terms.
This is version 1.0 — still being reviewed. This is our first published version. We're having it checked by a lawyer and will publish an updated version when that's done. If anything here doesn't make sense, please email chat@equityengine.health and we'll explain.
